The Hawaii State Energy Office is hiring for two positions:
Candidates for the Volkswagen Settlement lead will be in charge of a growing medium and heavy-duty vehicle rebate program. Currently funded at roughly $1M/year the successful program was just awarded another $4.5M through a competitive DERA grant! Another immediate priority is leveraging roughly $1M of Volkswagen funds to use as cost share in pursuing federal grants for EV charging. EV charging investments will leverage a $1M Ride and Drive Electric grant which is just kicking off to identify resilient charging technologies and projects to support both the public and state fleets during hurricanes, fires, and other natural disasters. A successful candidate will be a solid project manager with attention to detail that has a background and passion for the electrification of transportation.
Transportation Energy Specialist
The Transportation Energy Specialist will be tackling a wide range of policy analysis enabled by HSEO’s expanding data base of statewide vehicle registration, energy, and housing data to explore solutions to decarbonizing transportation. HSEO is using data to identify who are, and who are not, adopting clean transportation alternatives. In order for Hawaii to achieve our energy and decarbonization goals we will need to identify policies and programs so that everyone has the opportunity to participate. The position will leverage US Climate Alliance grants for mobility hubs, state employee travel demand management, and the resilient charging grant noted above. We are looking to identify policies and programs that can cover everyone’s mobility requirements including micro-mobility, bike/ped., mass-transit, mobility hubs, and any other solution that reduces the energy required and the overall transportation demand while meeting residents needs. A good candidate will be analytical, comfortable working with large data sets and ideally will have experience with geospatial analysis utilizing tools such as ArcGIS.
Critical to both positions is the ability to work collaboratively both internally and externally. There is a great team at HSEO and throughout Hawaii’s transportation and energy landscape. We have a lot to do and we all need to work together to achieve Hawaii’s goals!
