LĪHU‘E – The Office of Economic Development (OED) is seeking a creative and motivated individual to join our team as a Climate Communications Associate. Funded through the AmeriCorps VISTA program, this full-time position will design and implement outreach strategies to share and engage vulnerable communities about OED’s climate projects. The range of projects includes invasive species management, energy efficiency, broadband equity, and sustainability goals.
The Climate Communications Associate will work closely with the State’s Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Commission, contributing to local efforts to tackle climate change, address its impacts, and increase island resiliency. The role is a unique chance to combine creativity with climate knowledge while gaining valuable professional experience.
Program Details:

- Program Duration: July 15, 2024, to July 15, 2025
- Eligibility: Minimum age of 18, college graduate
Preferred Skills:
- Marketing and Graphic Design: Ability to design compelling and effective messages.
- Climate Knowledge: Familiarity with climate relevant topics such as energy efficiency, invasive species, broadband equity, Aloha+ Challenge.
- Communications: Strong writing and editing skills
- Community Outreach: Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with youth groups and vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work in a team environment
