LĪHU‘E – Kauaʿi Police Department, in partnership with Kauaʿi County Housing Agency (KCHA), has awarded Women In Need (WIN) a grant of $500,000 to provide housing support to houseless individuals and families.

The Hilina’i Kauaʿi Housing Program will provide housing vouchers to eligible houseless individuals and families. Vouchers will last for one year. The program will serve a minimum of 15 households.

“Women In Need is excited to partner with KPD and the County of Kaua’i to aid our houseless population with finances to secure safe housing,” said Kimberly Cummings, WIN Kauai Program Director. “Every person deserves a home.”

The program’s purpose is to help individuals and families who are houseless and have an income level under 80% of the area median income (AMI) as determined by the federal government. WIN will use an established waitlist to identify qualified recipients. This waitlist was created through KCHA’s Tenant-Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) voucher program and outreach to the five County beach parks that participated in the temporary shelter-in-place program. Recipients will have participated in the shelter-in-place program at one time or another.

“I want to thank the Mayor and the County Council for providing KPD with the funding necessary to assist our houseless community,” said Chief of Police Todd G. Raybuck. “We are also grateful for our partnership with KCHA, which gave us the opportunity to provide financial support to families through Women in Need.”

Landlords interested in accepting vouchers can reach out to WIN housing director, Sharon
Graham, at 808-855-5360. She will reach out to those on the established waitlist directly.
